Over the past few weeks I watched the NBA Playoffs. In recent memory this was the best overall playoffs I have seen. The games were close, Denver almost went to the big one, and several players elevated their games. Even with the good basketball, the stand out for me was the Nike Basketball commercials featuring Lebron James and Kobe Bryant puppets.
I have been a fan of puppets/muppets since childhood and enjoyed Lamb Chop’s Play Along, Sesame Street, and the Land of Make-Believe from Mr. Rodger’s Neighborhood. These shows taught me how to read, tell knock knock jokes, see how mail is delivered, and be a good citizen. Plus, I got to see the master of sweater and shoe coordination. Puppets or marionettes have been a proven attention getter…Remember little penny a.k.a. Chris Rock. Does Nike Basketball give fat endorsement checks with no intention of ever making their money back. No way. So why do we so easily give our money away without giving something for people to talk about. Why when people ask for something to talk about you got nothing? In part two I will explore why being boring is surefire way to stay irrelevant.
