I am a young wipper snapper and tend to get shafted on the experience debate. Dinosaurs did not attack the young ones, rather they let natural selection take care of things. For fear of alienating my audience dinosaurs is not a metaphor for old. When dealing with money and business I think natural selection is the best way. Once you start attacking the next generation you are stifling future progress. I am the first to admit I stand on the shoulders of those giants before me. I have had the pleasure of meeting a Tyrannosaurs Rex, many Brontosaurus, and several Triceratops. Each one has help me along in return I try to help others. For whatever reason the original dinosaurs are extinct. My thoughts are that if the current juggernauts do not get back to helping us young ones the future entrepreneurs may become extinct. Can you really say you have help someone who may be younger or less experienced than you? Or have you attacked them by using your experience against then.
Here is how is sounds:
“When you get my age”
“One day you will understand”
“Someday you will be ready”
“I am doing you a favor”
“You have to pay your dues before”
“You just don’t have enough experience”
Here is what it should sound like:
”I need a young persons opinion”
“Would you mind assisting me with”
“Can you share your ideas”
“Your perspective is just right for”
“What do you know about”
“Let’s try it”
You never know when the avoiding the big honking comet, surviving the Ice Age, or even the future of your species may depend the investments you make in the young ones. Roar!!
