The name automatically implies a woman with the ugliest personality, most irritating attention to detail, and an absolute excess of indecisiveness.
REALITY CHECK:
I’ve spent the last 3 months trying to be the most easy-going bride. I haven’t put my foot down on any colors, venues, or even food. Hell, I haven’t even started shopping for a dress!! But for some reason this makes me even more frustrating of a bride, than the original Bridezilla.
SCENE:
Tasting of the catering and walk through of the potential wedding venue (Spirit of Washington Events Center). Steven and I have already walked through the venue earlier this week, and liked it. Now we’re getting the opinions of our close family and friends.
THE TASTING: Average
Our small table seemed out of place in the foyer of the old Spirit of Washington train station. Because our appointment was the last of the day, our food was palatable, but not fresh. The London broil left much to be desired, and the blackened salmon had too much spunk. However, the crab stuffed mushrooms saved the tasting from being a total loss. It was unanimous that the menu would need to be altered, and another tasting will be conducted next month.
THE VENUE: Large
The venue (one block north of the station), was set up for a school auction. Tables cluttered with what looked like garage sale items, had bidding sheets set up, ready to receive donations. Dining table rounds were set up on the opposite half of the building, and that is where we began our “discussion.” All things that would come over time, were being thrown into the pot of discussion today. Steven of course stayed an arms length away from all of it. I was bombarded with questions of :
- why my colors did not reflect my absolutely love for pink
- how many people were we inviting
- how many rounds (table) are we setting up
- what the bridesmaids are wearing
- where the pictures will be taken
- why I haven’t considered chair covers
- what my idea was for table linens
In the whirlwind of discussion over all the small details, I realized that I haven’t really made any mental decisions on what I wanted. I knew that things wouldn’t look EXACTLY the way I would want them, so I’ve been rolling with whatever seemed easiest. I tried so hard not to turn into Bridezilla, but in doing so, I’ve become her non-chalant twin!!!
The point is….know your role. It is your wedding as well as the groom. So take a step back, and envision your day. Make it solid. This is the one time you have to get what YOU want. No matter what you decide, your friends and family will celebrate YOU no matter how you dress it up.
